Are there any expenses to consider in Germany?

Great question! Yes there are.
Like I said above, education may be free, but you will have to pay for your living expenses.
Now, Germany has an excellent policy regarding that too!
The policy is called: Blocked Account.
Blocked accounts are a little different from your everyday bank accounts.
This account requires a specific amount of €10,332 fixed before applying for the visa. You cannot withdraw money from this account after you get your visa and before you enter Germany.
After you safely enter Germany, the account becomes usable.
However, you can take only a specified amount out of it every month.
Look at it this way: it basically assures your power of financial self-support, so you don’t go bankrupt in a foreign country.
The German government sounds like your ami abu, right? 😉
Living costs in Germany can be anything between €800-€1100 a month.

Eligibility for International Students

Requirements:
- Eligibility
- Everyone who has completed 12 years of education must undergo a one-year bridge program. This program compensates for the 13-year schooling requirements in Germany compared to Pakistan’s 12 years. However, If you are an A-level graduate, you don’t need to take up the bridge program.
- You should have scored a minimum of 70% in your 12th standard. If you are going for diploma programs, the cut-off is 60%.
- Language Test
- International students are required to pass the German language test, as the education is mainly in German. Official language tests are the TestDaF or the DSH examination.
- Documents
- Attested copies of results of 10th, 12th, and Bachelor's (if completed)
- Academic Letters of Reference (LOR) from teachers who have taught you
- If you have work experience, recommendation letters from employers are required
- Your resume/CV
- Your health insurance
Your university may require additional documents from you, depending on their policies.
Where to Apply?
Most universities have websites where you can connect with them.
You have to create a student account. Enter your information and learn about the universities from there.
Additionally, they also have to complete their application using these websites by uploading scanned images of their educational documents and deposit fees via bank transfer.
The above is a general procedure to apply to any university. However, policies vary from university to university.
When to start applying to universities in Germany?
Although intake season varies from university to university, most applications are open from February to May, and classes start in September.
On the other hand, a few universities offer a second session whose admission period is from November to January while the classes commence in March.
It is a good idea to have all your documents above and GRE/GMAT scores in hand at least four months before the application dates.
How to write your SOP:
SOP stands for Statement of Purpose. This letter describes your importance as a student and the reason you chose a specific college. The SOP has a sole purpose: to hear YOUR story.
The admissions team wants to learn about you outside of scores and percentages. Many students apply to their university; some have scored more than you, some have the same marks as you, and others have less. But seats are limited.
At this stage, the admissions team wants to know about you as a person. They are looking for people who are academically gifted AND have made an impact in the world. It is your time to shine.
The SOP is your chance to tell them why they should choose YOU from thousands of other applicants. Naturally, therefore, the tone of the SOP should be somewhere between casual and formal.
Letter of Recommendation (LOR):
Whew! That was a challenge above. You are probably already thinking about what to write in the SOP.
But I have good news for you. You don’t have to write the LOR yourself. Your professor writes it.
As someone who has taught you, your professor can write a letter to your university of choice describing your qualities as a student. The LOR is vital for your German university because they are also interested to know your capabilities and characteristics from a former teacher. This way, they are convinced that they are admitting a good student committed to their study goals.

STUDENT LIFE IN GERMANY

Accommodation:
Universities facilitate students with accommodation and cooked meals.
Suppose you have a special requirement like halal food only or have an allergy to smoke. Then, you can let the housing officers know. They will find you a place with non-smoking roommates and a menu suitable to your needs.
You can even choose to live in a private hostel if you will, or in case the university does not offer accommodation or no space is available. In this case, the housing office can also help by providing the student(s) details of private hostels or landlords nearby the university.
Orientation:
The orientation is an introduction to the university, its courses, and faculty to new students. Orientation can be one day, three days, or one week long! It depends on how your university plans it.
The purpose is to familiarize you with the new place. They give you enough information to get used to the new university that will be your home for the next few years.
The orientation is essential for every student but specifically for international students. That’s because moving to a new place and a new country is a huge thing. It takes time to adjust to new environments, venues, menus, and people.
The good news is that International Students Office is always cooperative and there to guide you.
Extracurricular Activities:
With theoretical education, personality grooming is also essential. Students must gain the confidence to interact with new people and communicate effectively.
For this purpose, extracurricular activities play a significant role. For example, connecting to different literary societies, dramatics clubs, sports, and other clubs can help you network with people who have similar interests.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Safety in Germany
According to the crime scale of Germany, it is a very safe country. Civilians have reported that they don't feel any threat of terrorism at all. Thanks to the high-security measures taken in public places, people feel 100% satisfied with living in the country. Video monitoring with the help of installed cameras is everywhere, including public transports, indoors and outdoors. As a result, violent crimes are negligible in Germany.
Weather:
Temperature ranges from 22 to 35 degrees Celsius in summer and -10 to 3 degrees Celsius in winter. So consider it not too hot and not too cold – somewhere like the weather in Murree that remains moderate all year round.
Great news if you come from somewhere like Lahore or Karachi, where it can get unbelievably hot and cold.
Germany consists of 16 different states, and weather conditions can significantly differ from one part of the country to the other. Therefore, I say be ready for the adventure! That’s the most exciting thing about studying abroad!
Lifestyle
A large number of immigrants from Asia, Europe, and the Americas live in this beautiful country. Do you know what that means?
Well, you can expect a culture of openness here. You are free to practice your customs, religion, and traditions without fear of being an outsider. Hence, several festivals and events happen in Germany throughout the year.
As someone who’s going to study abroad in the future, that’s an exciting thing to know! In addition, international students enjoy inviting friends over, especially those who aren’t familiar with your culture.
The student visa limits money spent by the student, which is approximately €8,700 (USD 10,400). You will have to show an amount of €9,600 (US$11,500) for each year spent in Germany. You can call it your ‘backup’ money or the cost of your living.
JOBS/ INTERNSHIPS
Work during studies:
You can work up to 180 days part-time and 90 days full-time during your stay in Germany. Bonus: it is the only country in the world where you can work in a technical field before you even graduate! If you are interested in getting hands-on experience, your university's careers office should be able to guide you.
So what kind of part-time jobs are available?
Teaching English
Yup, you guessed it right! Teach English as a part-time tutor for a German person. The minimum payout is easily 8.8 pounds an hour. You can do this off-campus, like doing private tuitions. Remember, your English should be extraordinary to win a gig.
Research/ Teaching Assistant
Universities have plenty of opportunities for students who want to earn on campus. Keep an eye on job boards placed all around the campus. In addition, many departments announce assistantships to students specializing in a subject matter.
POST-STUDY WORK VISA:
After you successfully complete your bachelor's or Master's, you will be granted a 1-year work visa to look for suitable jobs in your field. Make the best use of this time to look for opportunities. When you find a permanent position, you can apply for a Residence Permit and extend your stay in Germany!
Popular Job Sectors
Mechanical and Automobile Engineering
Germany has been exporting cars since forever! They need mechanical engineers, and they need automobile experts. If you are considering a bachelor's or Master's in Germany that leads to job opportunities, then mechanical and automotive are both excellent options!
German-made electronics are also ruling the world.
Healthcare
As challenging as getting into a medical program in Germany, getting a job is equally easy! There is a need for healthcare practitioners, especially in small cities. Suppose you are considering a degree in pharma, dentistry, public health, or physiotherapy. In that case, you have a good chance of finding a suitable job in Germany. Having a good grasp of the German language is essential, though.
Electrical Engineering
Another engineering that is highly regarded in the country is electrical engineering. In addition, Germany continues to attract top minds worldwide in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
Clearly an excellent choice!
